In conversation with Annabel
Alongside studying for a degree in English Literature, Annabel completed a variety of volunteer roles in both marketing and publishing that were each related in some way to sustainability. These roles helped her to successfully apply for a summer internship at Hawkland in marketing and content creation. After deciding to continue her studies for another year and applying for a Masters in English, Annabel joined Hawkland in a freelance marketing role in 2023.
A typical working week for Annabel begins in the office on Monday morning, where she will usually check in with the rest of the team about any new projects and updates. She will frequently meet with Ben and Amber to discuss new ways to market Hawkland’s design work and receive the latest architectural drawings. After meeting with the team, Annabel will usually begin by replying to comments, DMs, and emails, and then continue editing social media campaigns ready to be scheduled. Afterwards, she will move on to whatever project she is working on at the time, which varies from week to week, but typically includes writing for the Hawkland blog, generating ad campaigns, digital marketing, or working on various outdoor and print marketing campaigns. Annabel will continue to work on these projects during the week while attending lectures and seminars.
Annabel is currently researching options for a future print marketing campaign (and writing this blog). She has several highlights in the role after working for Hawkland for nearly a year, starting with meeting the Mayor of the West of England, Dan Norris, and the Secretary of State of Climate Change and Net Zero, Ed Miliband. She has also particularly enjoyed leading two significant Bristol-based print campaigns and developing the company’s copy guidelines.
Annabel has always been interested in and aware of sustainability as a pressing issue, and wanted her work to reflect her belief that we have a duty to protect the environment and mitigate the climate crisis. Although she didn’t know much about ecological construction before joining Hawkland, she feels that she has gained invaluable knowledge about the importance of incorporating ecological materials into the UK construction industry to meet net-zero targets. She particularly enjoys working within a team which shares her values of sustainability and conclusion
After four years of studying in Bristol, Annabel is excited to continue working within the marketing industry, travel, and eventually move to London. She is also interested in copywriting, publishing, and journalism. In her spare time, you might find her walking on the Downs, exploring St Nicks Market, or listening to jazz on King St.
